Nut Brown

We went to a gathering at the Ugly Moose last week as a farewell for a coworker moving to New Jersey.  While there, William found another beer he liked: Goose Island's Nut Brown. Nicely, Goose Island provided some details on their website.  That info, along with some modifications to a similar recipe online leads us to Buried Castle's next selection:  (again yet to be named) Nut Brown.

Chateau enterre (aka French Saison) is in bottles.  42 bottles are filled and in he conditioning closet.  2 weeks to go... initial mpressions are a bit more belgian profile than intended.

in other news, the CDA was brewed saturday and is active in the new tem controlled fermentation chamber.

Fermentation chamber is ready

The controller is wired up, the minifridge has been modified.  It's time to start a new batch.  the fermentation chamber will get its first use with the Cascadian Dark Ale coming up later this week.  The controller can do heat and cooling: each outlet is powered individually through the controller.  Until it's time for some belgians, we on't worry about installing a heater in the fridge.  There's still some touch up to go:  more taping, level out the bottom... drill a hole for the temp probe, and find something other than paintball tanks to keep the door closed.

Microcontroller is here

The microcontroller arrived today.  The minifridge has been expanded.  Just a few pieces left to pick up, then may have a temp controlled fermentation chamber ready after work tonight.

Equipment Upgrades

It's hot and humid and standing next to the burner wasn't going to be fun, so the CDA is on hold and today became research day.  The results are in;  we're building a temperature controlled fermentation chamber.  Parts are now on order to make the controller.  Follow that up with a trip to Lowes to modify the existing minifridge to hold the fermenter buckets and soon we'll be ready for steady temps and fermenting in the 60s or maybe even some lagering coming up.  If all goes well, we may even be able to have a controlled/heated chamber too but not sure when that would get much use here.

Thanks to android on HBT for the writeup/suggestions:

It may look something like this when done:

Cascadian Dark

The saison is in the fermenter, and the empty bottle inventory is high so it's time to bump production.  Ingredients are now on hand for a new style attempt: Cascadian Dark Ale
